1. STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

M.E. (Electronics & Communication Engineering - VLSI Design)

Electronics & Communication Engineering department at NITTTR Chandigarh (Deemed to be University under Distinct Category) offers AICTE-approved, industry-aligned, Master of Engineering (M.E.) degree programmes in VLSI Design. These programs are designed to meet the growing demand for highly skilled professionals and educators in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Programmes Offered
I. M.E. (Regular) in Electronics & Communication Engineering (VLSI Design)
This programme is tailored for professionals aiming to upgrade their technical skills in tune with the fast-evolving technology landscape. The program aims to develop qualified faculty and professionals who can contribute effectively to engineering education and the VLSI industry.
Key Features:
- Evening classes: 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM (ideal for working professionals)
- Up to 40% of the courses are being offered in online mode (as per UGC norms, with a maximum of two online courses per semester)
Categories of Admissions:
Electronics & Communication Engineering department offers M.E. Programme for the following categories of students:
- Sponsored Teachers/ Technical Staff of Technical Institutions/ Officials of State DTEs/ BTEs
- Working professionals from Industry/ Other Organizations
- Candidates under QIP Scheme of AICTE
- Engineering Graduates aspiring to be teachers
- Having valid GATE score
- Non-GATE candidates shall also be admitted on the basis of merit
- Fresh graduates are also eligible to apply; however, their applications will be considered only after all applications meeting the specified qualifications have been exhausted.
The preference for admission will be given as per the above sequence.
Duration:
- Normal Duration(including Thesis): 2 academic years (4 semesters)
- Maximum Duration(including Thesis): 3 academic years (6 semesters)
II. M.E. (Modular) in Electronics & Communication Engineering (VLSI Design)
This unique modular program is designed to facilitate qualification enhancement for in-service technical teachers and professionals. Approved by AICTE, the modular format allows flexibility without compromising on academic rigor.
Key Features:
- Designed for in-service teachers, technical staff, and professionals from industry
- Focus on structured academic progression while balancing work commitments
- Offers a comprehensive understanding through flexible learning spells
Admission Categories:
Electronics & Communication Engineering department offers M.E. Programme for the following categories of students:
- In-service Teachers/Technical Staff of Technical Institutions/ Officials of State DTEs/ BTEs
- Working Professionals from Industry/ Other Organizations
- Engineering Graduates with one year experience aspiring to be teachers
- Engineering graduates with the specified qualifications (with or without experience) may also apply. However, they will be considered only after all applications in the above category are exhausted
The preference for admission will be given as per the above sequence in this emerging area of technology
Duration:
- Normal Duration(including Thesis): 3½ academic years (7 spells of 5 weeks each)
- Maximum Duration(including Thesis): 5½ academic years (11 spells)
Special Features of M.E. Programmes
- The nature of programmes offered are flexible, allowing self-pacing and taking up courses of study in a sequence and at the time convenient to the students within the maximum time frame as stipulated by the institute for the completion of the programme.
- The focus is on the mastery of minimum essential competencies, enhancement of knowledge and development of capabilities such as learning to learn, problem solving, management skills etc.
- The curriculum contents of the programmes are aligned with the National Higher Education Qualification Framework and NEP-2020 guidelines.
- The curriculum contents of all these programmes will encompass the future of work, sustainable development, women-led development and harnessing of technology.
- The focus is to update the knowledge base of teachers/students in specialized field(s) through these programmes. In addition to classroom teaching and laboratory work, the programmes make use of a combination of instructional techniques such as group discussion, home assignments, individual and group projects, independent study, remedial instruction, industry-based instruction, expert lecture sessions, field visit to industry etc.
- Assessment of students' performance is based on both continuous evaluation and end semester evaluation with the use of a variety of assessment techniques matching the learning objectives of different courses of study. Completion of course work is followed by a thesis.
- Almost all courses contain practical/laboratory tasks. These tasks form an essential component of the curriculum implementation. Thesis work is based on problems of the technical education system, 'On - Job Problems' of Industries and other societal problems
