National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh, (formerly known as Technical Teachers Training Institute (TTTI)), is established in 1967 by Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Govt. of India to meet the requirements of training engineering college and polytechnic teachers for the quality improvement of technical education system. It is one of the four national institutes in the country with focus on improving Technical Education in the northern region comprising the states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh,Uttarakhand, National Capital Territory of Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh. NITTTR Chandigarh is an ISO 9001: 2008 certified.
The institute has collaboration with Panjab University, Chandigarh for running post-graduate and Ph.D programmes and it is one of the approved research centers of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. The institute has also signed MoUs with three prestigious educational institutions namely Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur; B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar and Himachal Pradesh Technical University, Hamirpur on 26 September, 2012 to support each others' endeavour in delivery of academic programmes and research activities.
Institute's main focus is on teaching and training graduate teachers' of Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges through short-term and long-term programmes. Primarily, the institute is offering Master of Engineering programmes in six different disciplines in addition to short-term programmes of one/two week duration in emerging areas for imparting latest and advanced knowledge to teachers.
Not only this, the institute is having excellent infrastructure and laboratory facilities for doing experiments and tests on consultancy basis in various engineering and non-engineering disciplines. Besides this, this institute is involved in designing and revision of Diploma courses curriculum of Polytechnics in various engineering streams. The institute is also active in promoting entrepreneurship development and improvement of industry-institute interaction (III).
