Introduction

The Library's mission is to make its resources available and useful to NITTTR Library members and to sustain and preserve the collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations.

NITTTR library houses more than 50,000 resources which include books, bound volumes of journals, theses, CDs, DVDs etc. The library collection covers subjects like Civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer science, applied science, education, management, mathematics and allied areas.

User-friendly library software called LIBERTY has been adopted at the Library. This internationally popular software facilitates automated circulation (issue & return) of the books and speedy access to bibliographies, locations and availability information of the books stocked in the library. Bar-coding on books and the automated check-in and check-out facility of books reduce the waiting time.

Objectives

  • To collect , organise and collate print and digital informations and dissiminate at the point of care and for future use.
  • to provide seamless access to information.
  • To act as gateway to digital and electronic information.
  • To develop into a single access point library.
  • To create and update a comprehensive database to Indian Literature in the field of technical and vocational education.
  • To develop and conduct tutorials for the user to enable them to effectively utilize to facilities and resources made available by the library.

Collection

The completely automatic library has specialized collection in the field of engineering and technology, education with special emphasis on technical education along with training and research and education.

More than 40 national & international periodicals and magazines are subscribed to keep the users updated with the trends in the field. The breakup of the collection is :

Library items- Books / bound volume /periodicals  

  • Theses, dissertations, CDs, video cassettes, reference books etc. are not lent out of the library.
  • Although the library circulation staff will observe any damage to the library item before lending it, all readers are requested to check the library item thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, pictures etc., or any damage before borrowing. Please note damaged items will not be lent out.
  • Library borrowed items (Books / bound volume /periodicals) if returned in damaged condition will NOT be accepted from the reader. Mutilated or spoiled books will have to be replaced by the borrower / the borrower would have to pay the replacement cost of the book for its latest edition.
  • Reference books are issued overnight two hours before the closing of Library,
  • Members are requested to return the library items on the due date to avoid inconvenience to others.

Inter Library loan

  • Library materials that the institute library does not possess in its collection, can most often be obtained form other libraries. This is called Inter Library loan (ILL). This facility can be availed by our borrower members only.


Delayed returns

Overdue notices and suspension of borrowing privileges

If a loaned item is not returned by the end of the lending period, the Library sends the patron 3 reminders, after which the copies of the fourth reminder will be marked to the concerned HOD and the Director NITTTR. Failure to return even after this wait, the patron will be blocked from further borrowing/interlibrary loans and from renewing loans until the item in question is returned to the Library. The patron in question is also blocked from making claims as well.

Loss of library borrowed items

  • Loss of Books / bound volume /periodicals must be reported immediately.

Claims

  • Borrowing members can keep claims for borrowed items. Reader can claim for books (reserve) already issued, at the circulation counter or using the WEBOPAC.
  • The members with borrowing facility of 20 can keep a claim for maximum of 2 books at a time and the others can claim for 1 book at a time.
  • Claimed books are kept reserved for the claimant for 4 days from the date of return by previous borrower.
  • Books have to be made physically available for re-issue
  • Books are reissued only if there are no claims.
  • The borrowing facility can be withdrawn or restricted in case of misbehavior or misuse of the library.

Sections :

Journals Section
It consists of Serials Control Unit, Processing Unit and Maintenance Unit. This section is responsible for acquisition of journals and their maintenance.
Books Section
It consists of Book Selection Unit, Book Ordering Unit, Processing Unit, Technical (Classification and Cataloguing) and Maintenance unit. The section is responsible for acquisition of books and their maintenance.
Readers' Service Section
This takes care of all reader services viz. Circulation of reading material, Inter-Library Loan, Photocopy Requests, Online and Offline database search, reference and referral services.
E-Library
This Unit is used to access the online journals subscribed by the Library and to search the CDs and DVDs.
Administration Unit
This Unit takes care of the budget controls, coordination with other sections of the Institute, maintenance of other official records, etc.

Services :

Online Public Access Catalogue
Library has Web OPAC which is a powerful web based search engine for searching books and journal holdings database.
Issue of Books/Journal Volumes
Users may borrow books and bound volumes of journals for a stipulated period.
Reference Service/Assistance
Reference queries from users are answered over telephone, email or in person. While general queries are answered by the staff at the desk, specific queries regarding books or journals could be referred to with personnel of the concerned section.
Photocopy Service
Instant photocopy of limited number of pages from loose issues of journals is provided free of cost to users by the desk staff. Photocopies of journal articles from bound volumes are provided free of cost to academic staff. Photocopying (journal articles only) services are also extended to users of other nonprofit academic institutions. For such users, a nominal fee of Re. 1 per page towards the cost of reproduction is charged. If the request for delivery of photocopies by post is made, one needs to bear mailing cost along with the cost of reproduction. Limited number of pages from the books are photocopied
Inter-library Loan
Library has an inter-library loan arrangement with all important government and semi-government academic institutions. Books or journals which are not available with NITTTR Library can be procured from these institutions for a short period.
On-line journals and Databases
Library provides access to over 3100 on-line journals . Library has access to full text databases such as  ASME, JSTOR, Oxford University Press and IEL Online POP+ASPP Nature; EPW. It also has access to bibliographic databases, such as ISID, JCCC and Web of Science  .
CD-ROM Search
Library has small collection of CD-ROM/DVD and back files of various journals. These CDs/DVDs could be searched on the library work station available in the e-Library or on the personal laptops. In addition the library has compiled two directories of open source journals which are relevant to the institute academic programs.

Borrowing Facility

Library members can borrow books and bound volumes and periodicals for a stipulated period.

Inter-Library Loan

The library has an inter-library loan facility initiated with engineering institutes and university libraries in the city. Documents, which are not available within our collection, could be loaned from other libraries for a stipulated period.

Photocopying

Photocopy of limited number of pages is provided free of cost to staff of the institute. Photocopying services are also extended to the visitors, for a nominal fee. This facility can be availed from 3.00 p.m to 4.00  p.m.

Reference

Library can help you to located or search required information from the free databases available over the INTERNET. A database request form will have to be filled up for this.

Library will also help you to verify and trace citation etc, for this please fill up the Ask Librarian form.

Internet access.

The Library provides the internet and office application software facilities to the library members during all working hours of the library.

Union Catalogue

The library catalogue of the institute is also available through the IndCAT of Inflibnet.

Monday-Friday: 9:00 a.m- 5:30 p.m
Saturday and Sunday (during modular program): 9:30 a.m- 4:00 p.m
Closed on all public holidays.

The Computer facility  
The library provides access to computers through the e-Library. The e-Library has twenty PCs with the following additional value for the users to work with for their academic needs. The entire library has Wi Fi connectivity.

All computers have - MS office, CD/DVdrive, to view multimedia CDs,
All computers have access to Internet through out the library working hours.

The Photocopying requirements

Readers from other institutes / Visitors  The facility is chargeable
  • Visitors can also avail of this facility on payment, the charges being Rs.1/Page from the Media Centre.
  • Library does not permit photocopying of entire chapter or books, except few line drawings, tables, etc. totaling.
  • The Library also does not entertain photocopying of personal material.
  • Final decisions regarding Xerox work will be with the Chief Librarian.

These rules are liable to revision from time to time depending on the needs.

  • Computer facility is only for the institute library members. Users must display their identity
  • Trainees of institute can also access computer facilities.
  • Use of Internet for academic work is given priority
  • Chatting on the Net is prohibited
  • E-mail is to be discouraged
  • Download of full text access is permitted to the library members, however systematic download is not permissible, See the Copyright Act.
  • No print outs are provided for the any of the matter
  • Users are not permitted to save on any section of the hard disk of any of the PCs. The users can temporarily only save on 'My documents' area of the PC and not any where else.

It is the sole responsibility of the user to take timely back-up of the matter that is created or saved by him / her. The library staff for the purpose of maintenance shall delete such files every 3- days to provide enough working space for the users and ensure proper functioning of the PCs in terms of speed and other technical snags.

Users must not save any matter on the 'desk tops'

Users must not down-load any screen-saver other than the activated by the library and should also not change the screen settings.
