  2. Activities
  3. Facilities

The objective of the Department of Information Management and Emerging Engineering is to conduct long term and short term programmes in the emerging areas of engineering like Internet of Things, Cyber Security, Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Intelligent Systems etc., which involve multidisciplinary approach. In addition, the Department also undertakes activities related to Instructional Material Development, R&D, Extension Services and Consultancy in these areas. The Department is equipped with Laboratories in the areas of Advanced Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things. The department also has the function of both External as well as Internal coordination activities. The external coordination includes liaisoning with the client system/stakeholders and internal coordination includes the academic coordination of the institute programmes and activities.

The department faculty completed three sponsored research projects funded by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and AICTE, New Delhi

  1. Establishment of Cyber Security Laboratory facility for Technical Teachers Training – funded by MeitY, New Delhi (Amount of Rs. 45.65 laces) – Project Investigator: Prof. Maiteryee Dutta
  2. Establishment of Advanced Cyber Security Laboratory for Technical Teachers – funded by MeitY, New Delhi (Amount of Rs. 62 lacs)- Project Investigator: Prof. Maiteryee Dutta
  3. Securing Billions of things – SEBO - funded by AICTE, New Delhi (Amount of Rs. 14.98 lacs) – Project Investigator: Prof. Maiteryee Dutta

Under these projects the team members development many Lab Manuals and videos on open source cyber security tools and on internet of things those videos are uploaded in Youtube.com. Also faculty published many research papers in SCI journals.

Department faculty also organized many consultancy programmes for Uttarakhand Workforce Development Programme for principals and faculty of ITIs. The department also established AR/VR laboratory for improvement in quality in teaching learning process where the instructional materials will be developed with AR/VR. Hon. Minister of Education Sh. Dharmeder Pradhanji inaugurated this laboratory on 7th September, 2021 during Institute day celebration.

The department has the function of both External as well as Internal coordination activities. The external coordination includes liaisoning with the client system/stakeholders and internal coordination includes the academic coordination of the institute programmes and activities.

External liaisoning has the following functions :

  1. Liaisoning with the States, AICTE, EdCIL, MHRD, NPIU etc. and other national and international organization for ascertaining their needs.
  2. Obtain feedback from these organizations about the quality of  programmes / activities
  3. Obtain information about the needs of the clientele system relevant to the programmes and activities that can be offered by the Institute.
  4. Create a climate in the client system for better acceptance of the institute programmes and activities and for initiating newer areas of activities developed at the institute.
  5. Co-ordinate for inter-disciplinary projects including training programmes for international fellows.
  6. Organising important meetings, workshops of Directorates of Technical Education, Principals of Polytechnics/Engg.College for future planning.

Academic coordination of institute activities includes planning and follow up of the institute programmes and activities:

  1. Consolidation of needs identified through extension services and casting them into a total Operational Plan of the institute.
  2. Finalising the annual report of the institute
  3. Collecting information about the institute for internal and external use
  4. Planning, organising and conducting meetings of the Departments of the institute.
  5. Determining future needs and planning for the future.
  6. Supporting Director in academic decision making at the institute level.

The department has Two main laboratories.

  1. Advance Cyber Security Laboratory
  2. Advanced Cyber Security Laboratory has been established under the sponsored project from MeitY, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The laboratory has high end computers along with Interactive LED display to conduct courses on Cyber Security. The laboratory is also equipped with Forensics hardware such as Write Blocker, True Imager, WINLIFT, Cyber Checksuite etc with high end Workstation. The Tea,m members developed 17 videos on the various open source cyber security tools as well as 25 Lab Manuals on various Open source tools.
